Almost Swallowed By A Whale

Hello readers,

We have been learning how to write a recount. A year 6's we need to say who, what, when, how, why and where and how. We need to write in first person (I) and past tense.W have been focusing on using dialogue, emotions and strong vocabulary.

We watched a YouTube video about a diver being almost swallowed by a whale and listened  to his interview. You can watch the video here.

Here is the interview that I wrote, imagining I was the diver and telling my recount of this experience.

Almost Swallowed By A Whale

Interviewer:  What did you need and have on you when you went diving with your friends?

Diver: I had a diving suit to protect me and to keep me warm and I also had some snorkels and a go-pro to take my photographs.

Interviewer: What were you taking photos of before you almost got swallowed by the whale?

Diver: I was taking photos of sardines in the ocean with some of my mates for the sardine run.

Interviewer: So you had this incredible experience and are lucky to be alive. Tell me what happened?

Diver: I was diving In the ocean to take photographs of sardines for the sardine run and as I know up comes a whale and snatched me from the water. He caught my top half but I knew just to brace myself then he’d let go.

Interviewer: Before the whale grabbed you, did you see the whale coming toward you?

Diver: No I did not see the whale because I was looking at the sardines.

Interviewer: What did it feel like when you were inside the whale?

Diver:  Well It was pitch black but I knew that this kind of whale was the biggest but this whale can’t swallow me because its throat  isn't big enough to swallow a human.

Interviewer: How did you not panic?

Diver: I just told myself to stay calm.

Interviewer: What did it feel like for you after this experience?

Diver: I was relieved and it was a really frightening experience.

I hope you were entertained! please let me know what you thought about my post in the comments below. Have an amazing weekend. Thank you for reading my blog.

  1. Hello Emily.
I would be terrified if a whale scooped me up accidentally.

I like the fact that you included the bit about the whales throat.I didn't know about that so I learnt something from the video.Because a whale is so HUGE I thought it's throat would be big enough to swallow larger fish.
Maybe it's because it was a certain type of whale.
Can you remember what type it was?.
